Associate Business Editor
Msnbc.com is looking for a razor-sharp associate business editor to help develop, manage and produce content. At least five years’ daily business news experience required; at least two years’ online experience preferred. Successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to manage and produce business news packages and projects that appeal to a mass-market audience. Job requires an instinctive ability to understand what stories appeal to online news readers and to move quickly to meet the needs of a 24-hour news cycle.

Must have strong demonstrated ability to write news copy and headlines. Looking for someone with a strong personality with persuasive powers to promote content, yet able to work comfortably with a small team of co-equals. Job will be based in New York or Redmond, Washington. Pay commensurate with experience, including a benefits package that is well above industry standards.

Senior Accounting Manager

Job description

This position is responsible for managing the company’s accounting and budget management functions and ensuring that our accounting procedures conform to generally accepted accounting principles. Specific activities include preparing financial statements and reports to internal and external stakeholders, managing and improving accounting systems and processes, controlling costs through variance analysis and management of certain suppliers, leading the annual audit, and serving as the internal accounting expert.

This position will interact extensively with internal and external stakeholders including department managers, finance and accounting functions at Microsoft and NBC Universal, and suppliers to the company. The role will also manage a small staff.

Detailed responsibilities

  1. Direct and coordinate company accounting and budget management functions.
  2. Monitor and analyze monthly operating results against budget and applicable benchmarks.
  3. Prepare and distribute monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and forecasts, including presentations for the Company’s Board of Directors.
  4. Work with department managers and corporate staff to develop budget plans for the company.
  5. Serve as primary liaison for company accounting issues.
  6. Serve as primary finance contact with Company’s parents, and work with various contacts in the parents’ organizations to ensure the smooth transfer of financial information between the parents and the Company.
  7. Perform analyses related to company activities and policies, including transactions, resourcing plans, etc.
  8. Manage and direct annual financial audit.

Required experience

  • Accounting degree, 7+ years of accounting and finance experience, CPA preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, specifically experience interacting with senior management and providing excellent customer service
  • Managing multiple projects concurrently and overseeing a broad range of activities
  • Experience working with accounting software and strong command of Excel
  • Management of staff

Sales positions

Director of Sales, Eastern Region
This strategic position is focused on developing sales opportunities for msnbc.com specific to the assigned geographic region. The Regional Director will report to the Sr. Director of National Sales and will work closely with the regional AE’s to respond to client RFPs and provide account management. Key responsibilities include developing compelling marketing solutions and providing top-notch customer service to clients while managing and coaching a highly functional team.

The Regional Sales Director will develop key relationships with Microsoft AEs, AM’s and internal Microsoft sales contacts and work with msnbc.com Sales Product Managers to manage sales communications regarding product and sales operations issues and opportunities. Also, this person will focus a significant portion of their energy building and maintaining direct relationships with top agencies and clients.

The Regional Sales Director will also work with various internal partners including sales product management, marketing, editorial, and technology to help drive product strategy, monetization plans, and be the advocate for advertising clients internally. In addition, they will be responsible for public speaking engagements and all around industry presence for the West region.

A minimum 10 years experience in media sales or marketing. Candidates must have strong sales presentation skills as well as project management and sales packaging/pricing skills.

The ideal candidates will be action oriented, results driven individuals able to function cooperatively within a complex sales organizational structure. Candidates must also demonstrate exceptional customer-focus and be confident communicators in phone, written and face-to-face settings. Ideal candidates must have the ability to identify new sales opportunities, define the products to meet the account's needs, and execute media packages to meet their revenue goals. It is crucial that candidates be able to represent msnbc.com with integrity and trustworthiness. Candidates must have excellent relationship and time management skills in order to successfully manage accounts and revenue opportunities.

Technology positions

Network Engineer
This is a full time permanent position as a Network Engineer within the Network Operations team. You will be responsible for operations and management of an enterprise 24x7 network.

As a member of the Networking Operations team you would be responsible for hardware installations, troubleshooting all network related issues, software upgrades, documentation and following best practices procedures for the enterprise network. The Network Engineer will work closely with the Sr. Network Engineer on projects and other related duties.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor, troubleshoot and maintain an enterprise network
  • Support the enterprise network 24x7 with on-call rotation
  • Work off hours and weekends as necessary
  • The ability to function independently with minimal supervision
  • The ability to work in a small team environment
  • The ability to configure, upgrade and install networking equipment
  • Produce and maintain network documentation with Visio
  • Domestic and International travel expected (10-15%)

Job Requirements:

  • 5-10 years experience in the following areas:
    • Enterprise networking, troubleshooting enterprise networks (LAN/WAN), in depth TCP/IP knowledge, Cisco hardware & software (IOS & CatO/S, native/hybrid), working with Telco’s, All types of physical layer cabling and different circuit knowledge (T1 & DS-3).
  • 3-5 years experience in the following areas:
    • Layer-2/3 routing and switching (OSPF, BGP, Static, STP, GE-Channel, PPP), ACL configurations, Cisco hardware (6500, 4500, 3750, 7600, 3800, 2800, 2600, ASA5500, PIX515e), DNS/Bind knowledge and SNMP management software (Ciscoworks, Solarwinds, NetMRI).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong Analytical and Problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously
  • Ability to work independently and in a small team
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office productivity suite (Word, Excel, Visio, Project)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years + Cisco certification or 5-10 years enterprise networking experience
  • ITIL or Industry accepted Best Practices
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs
